Privacy policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026
This policy covers the Kopik iPhone app and this website.
This English version is provided for convenience. The French version is the legally binding one and prevails in case of any discrepancy. Read the French version
In short
Kopik collects no personal data. There is no account, no Kopik server, no advertising and no analytics in the app. The publisher, DOMOUK (details in the legal notice), never receives what you enter in the app.
What stays on your phone
The following is stored only on your iPhone:
- your first name or nickname and your contact code;
- your medical information, if you fill it in (blood type, allergies, treatments);
- your waypoints, shelters, supplies, kit and go-bag;
- your messages, your close contacts and their codes, phone numbers and email addresses;
- the AI models and map areas you download.
Questions asked to the assistant are processed on the phone and are not sent anywhere.
What passes between nearby phones
Kopik exchanges data directly with nearby phones over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Other phones may relay it, including phones you do not know:
- Public messages and your nickname can be read by nearby phones running Kopik or bitchat.
- SOS alerts contain your position, and your medical information only if you have enabled “Attach to my SOS alerts”. They can be read by nearby phones.
- News for your close contacts (status, position if you allow it, meeting points) is encrypted. Only people who have your code can read it; other phones relay it without being able to read it.
Do not share anything in public messages that you would not say out loud to people nearby.
Downloads and online services
Only these requests leave your phone, when you are connected. As with any download, these services see your IP address:
- OpenFreeMap: map display and the map areas you download.
- Hugging Face: the AI model, only if you choose to install one.
When you invite a close contact by text or email, or share a meeting point, the message goes through the app you choose, under that app's rules. Kopik only receives the contact you pick, never your address book.
Permissions
Each permission is optional and can be withdrawn in iOS Settings. The feature that depends on it then stops working:
- Location: compass, map, waypoints, distance to shelters, position in an SOS.
- Bluetooth and local network: exchanges between nearby phones.
- Camera and photos: scanner, with recognition done on the phone.
- Notifications: alerts and news from your close contacts.
Deleting your data
Your data is on your phone, so you are the one who controls it: deleting the app erases it. Only the technical identification keys used for bitchat compatibility remain in the iOS keychain; they contain no information about you.
Messages already received by other phones stay on those phones.
This website
The site contains no advertising or audience measurement. It uses only the cookies it needs to work: your language choice and the technical session cookies of our authentication provider, Clerk.
Like any website, it is served by a host (Vercel) that keeps technical logs, including IP addresses, for security purposes. If you email us, we use your message and your address only to reply; our email provider is Resend. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the site and answering you, and some providers are located outside the European Union, under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, and to restrict or object to its processing. As the app sends us no data, these requests mainly concern the messages you have sent us. Write to hello@kopik.io. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with its date.
